Expressing growing concern regarding human rights abuses in East Turkestan the resolution calls upon the Chinese authorities to commence a constructive dialogue with the Uyghur community to resolve this crisis that already persisted at the cost of to many lives and suppression of basic human freedoms.

The UNPO General Assembly;

Reiterates its grave concern on the gross and systematic pattern of violation of human rights and fundamental freedom in Chinese-occupied Eastern Turkestan;

Alarmed by the ongoing process of cultural genocide in Eastern Turkestan due to China’s policies to destroy the very core of the religious, cultural and national identity of Uyghurs;

Encouraged by the global community’s expression of concern over the grave situation in Eastern Turkestan;

Remains alarmed at the uncertainties and a growing sense of fear among Uyghurs;

Expresses solidarity with the Uyghurs in their nonviolent freedom struggle; 

Strongly condemn the fallacious attempts of the Chinese authorities to portray Uyghurs’ discontentment with China’s rule as “terrorism” and even linking them with international terrorist organizations, such as Al-Qaeda, in order to justify its crackdown on Uyghurs;

Strongly condemns the People’s Republic of China for engaging in the inhuman practice of capital punishment against Uyghur political activists and human rights defenders;

Strongly urges China to stop immediately the coerced birth control policy being implemented upon Uyghur women; 

Strongly condemns China for its continued policy to severely restrict the Uyghur people’s right to practice their religious belief; 

Urges China to stop its policy of transferring young Uyghur women, between the ages of 14 to 25 years old, to eastern China under the pretext of “providing jobs”;

Strongly condemns the harsh suppression of the Uyghur women’s peaceful protest on 23 March 2008 in Hotan prefecture in Eastern Turkestan;

Strongly condemns the People’s Republic of China for confiscating the passports of Uyghurs as it violates freedom of movement of the Uyghur people; and to release all political prisoners, including Canadian citizen Huseyin Celil, historian Tohti Muzart and poet Nurmuhemmet Yasin.

Strongly condemns the so-called “bilingual language” policy aimed at undermining the Uyghur language;

Strongly urges China to release the sons of Ms Rebiya Kadeer, Alim Abdurehim and Ablikim Abdurehim, and cease harassment and intimidation of other Kadeer family members; 

Strongly calls upon the People’s Republic of China to begin a process of dialogue with the Uyghur people which results in the end to violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Eastern Turkestan.
