Batwa: Government has Ignored our Tribes
Four tribes in Southwestern Uganda; Batwa, Basongora, Banyabindi and Banyabutumbi have accused the government of neglecting them because it has not recognised them as other tribes in the country.
Four tribes in Southwestern Uganda have accused government
of neglecting them. While making presentations during the National Non Government
Organisation (NGO) Social Forum conference last weekend, the four tribes: Batwa,
Basongora, Banyabindi and Banyabutumbi said the government has not recognised
them as other tribes in the country. The Conference was held at Mandela National Sports Complex Namboole in Kampala. The Batwa and Banyabutumbi come from Kisoro district while Basongora and Banyabindi come from Kasese district.
The representative of the Basongora, Mr David Ndahura, said
the government grabbed all their land.
“The government gazetted all our land by force for its own interest and
has not compensated us. Most of our colleagues are now scattered in different
areas while others have died of hunger,” Ndahura told the conference.
