Naga: 3 Female Film Makers Honored at Documentary Film Festival
At a film festival on arts and culture held in Assam, India, three Naga women were given the ‘Young Achiever’s Award’ for their contribution to documentary film making. The women were projected into international fame after their documentaries were shown at a number of film festivals around the world.

Dalmia Cement Ltd presented the ‘Young Achiever’s Award’ to three young women film- makers from Nagaland in Jorhat in Assam during the opening ceremony of a documentary film festival on art and culture. The three filmmakers are Sesino Yhoshu, Sophy Lasuh, Yapangnaro Longkumer.The festival is being organized by the Film & Cultural Society of North East in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA). It is being supported by the Indian Documentary Producers’ Association, the Polish Institute, and the Danish Embassy, Goethe Institute and state governments of all the north eastern states.
Noted filmmaker Jahnu Barua presented the awards to these achievers in the presence of senior government functionaries and senior company officials from Dalmia Cement.
Seseno Yhoshu and Sophy Lasuh win the award for their documentary “Story of a House”, which has been screened at multiple festivals, including the University of Rochester, New York in 2012; the Greentopia Film Festival, New York 2013 and at the Rueben’s Museum of Art in New York 2014.
Yapangnaro Longkumer receives the award for her film “And Down to the River They Went”, which was screened at Asiatica Filmmediale in Rome. Her film “The Dairy of Mimi” and “And Down to the River They Went” were also screened at the Rueben’s Museum of Art in New York.
Chief Executive Officer for the Northeast unit of Dalmia Cement MC Kini reiterated the commitment of Dalmia Cement. “We will continue to honour young achievers from this region and showcase their talents at appropriate forums. This reflects our deep appreciation and respect for the cultural quotient of the region and our commitment to it,” he said in a press release.
Dalmia Cement presents the ‘Young Achiever’s Award’ to women filmmakers as a part of the company’s policy to felicitate young achievers from the region who have excelled in the fields of art, culture, cinema, sports, and journalism.
